Hotels with no footprint

Marataba Safari Lodge

In the heart of the Marakele National Park in South Africa, we find this charming hotel supplied only by solar energy obtained through its own panels. The lodge is made with organic materials like stone, wood and fabric.

Hix Island House

This hotel, designed by architect John Hix, is located in the center of the island of Vieques, in the southeast of the Puerto Rican continent, just a 20-minute flight from the capital of San Juan. The hotel uses the forces of nature to conserve energy while providing comfortable accommodation. It mainly operates with solar and wind energy, collects rainwater that is recycled back into the property and heats its water using the sun. The trees surrounding the property and the ideal on top of the central hill provide plenty of shade and a natural way to cool the hotel.

Hoshinoya Karuizawa

In a mountainous environment, surrounded by forests and 90 minutes from Tokyo, we find one of the best ecological hotels in the world where you can enjoy relaxing baths inspired by the Zen mentality. It uses the flow of currents and rivers to create hydroelectricity, covering it almost 70% of its consumption. Located on the slopes of a rocky volcano, the hotel takes advantage of the sulfuric heat generated below ground to create geothermal energy. In addition, they offer special eco tours as part of the hotel’s non-profit organization that takes care of the natural environment and protects the black bears that live in the hills and forests.
